Spring Break Snow Day!

We are having the loooongest winter. It hasn’t been particularly brutal, but it just. won’t. end. On Monday, I woke up to this view from my window:

Ever since moving to a place where it snows, I have learned that I am not a huge fan. It was fun to have snow at my grandparents’ house at Christmas when I was a kid. Then it was an exciting novelty. But now it’s just cold.

But, because I try to be a good mother, I bundled up the kids to go play out in the snow on Monday morning, the first day of Spring Break. And you know what? We really did have fun. Turns out that the snow we got was ideal for building a snowman! I plopped Campbell in the snow, thinking she would crawl around or do something, but she just sat there looking annoyed. I guess she takes after her mommy!

Grandpa Gene

On Thursday my Grandpa Gene passed away. I have been trying to compose a thoughtful and poetic blog post, but at the end of the day, all I can say is that I am really, really sad. I miss him a lot. He was an amazing grandpa and he gave the best hugs. Yesterday was his birthday and he would have been 87 years old. I will love you and miss you forever, Grandpa Gene.

Pajama Day

Last week was Pajama Day at Sam’s school. This was an exciting day for both of us, as one of our biggest struggles every day is getting Sam dressed! He just hates to stop playing for even a minute to get dressed! The night before, Sam picked out his favorite pajamas–the Superman pajamas Auntie Nikki gave him for his SECOND birthday. Yes, they are a little small, but Sam loves them just the same! Perhaps the most exciting part of pajama day was that the kids were supposed to bring their favorite blankie or stuffed animal for show and tell. Sam’s “night night” (an old sleep sack that has turned into his security blanked) is normally not allowed to leave the bedroom, so bringing it to school was a big deal!

By the time I picked Sam up from school, he had really gotten into character. I had to carry him into the house because he wasn’t listening to me and he started yelling, “Supermans don’t get carried by their mommies!!!!” Haha.

We can’t wait for next year’s Pajama Day!

13 months!

Campbell is 13 months old!! Hooray! She is growing and changing every day. It is so fun to watch. Here’s what she’s been up to:

  • cruising more and more! I have been trying to get her to walk only holding one of my hands, but she doesn’t like that! She will often just sit down when I let go of one hand, but if we are close to something, she will sometimes quickly walk over and grab on with the free hand.
  • talking more and more! Campbell loves to imitate words she hears, so she has learned several words but she really only says them after you say them, not independently. Her newest words are bow (bah) and keys (kssshhh) and she has also been imitating some animal sounds. She still loves to say hi all the time and she also loves to say uh-oh. She is really working hard on that oh sound. She really over enunciates the oh, which is really cute.
  • slow eater! Campbell is not really a picky eater but she isn’t a super eater either. She likes to just pick at things and it usually takes her a loooong time to finish a meal.
  • Campbell just learned how to crawl up the stairs, which is just awesome timing since I am soooo busy with school work right now!! Aaah!! I am quickly trying to teach her how to back down the stairs safely. She can go down one stair but then she doesn’t quite realize she isn’t on solid ground yet!
  • I have been working with her on pointing to her head, mouth, ears, eyes, nose, etc. I say, “where are your eyes?” and she bats her eyes. Very cute! When I ask her where her mouth is, she babbles while hitting her mouth with her hand so that she makes a “babababababa” sound. This is usually so fun that I can’t get her to point anywhere else!
  • She loves to imitate what she sees us doing. Whenever I put lotion on my hands, she gets a gleeful look and starts rubbing her hands together. And if she sees Sam doing some funny dance, she’ll start doing her best approximation of it too.
  • way more into books! She really likes reading with us now, especially lift the flap books. (Actually, book is another word she knows–bah). Her favorite book by far is “Where is Baby’s Belly Button?” She gets SO excited when we read this book.

Can’t wait to see what she is up to by next month! Here are some pictures from the last few weeks. We love you Cam-Cam!

Cruiser

Ever since we got reprimanded at Campbell’s 1 year check up, we’ve really been working with Campbell on her cruising skills (or as Sam would say, “screwing” skills). She is doing a great job! Here’s a little video of her walking with a little push toy. I think she’s still a ways off from walking on her own, but that is just fine with me!
